The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

Hi,

I have just downloaded the site from the server, which is now working great...

Now when I run the local (laptop) version I am getting the above error... "The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration"

Both server and local are running .NET 4.0... what other setting am I missing or forgetting to change?

Phill

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

Okay guys....

I am starting to think that I can delete the entire local copy... keeping the Skin folder out and then install again from scratch as it seems that it is an IIS & web.config issue, neither of which can I find a reasonable solution too...

Is there anything else I should be mindful of and keep a copy of to re-insert after the re-install?  Apart from the Skin folder?

Phill

That'll fix the little bugger!!!

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

Good day,

I'm also having the problem.  After uploading, to WinHost (version mojopotal-2-3-5-8-b-mssql-net40-deploymentfiles.zip), confirming rights to folders, placing the proper connection string into web.config, I then call the ..../Setup/default.aspx per directions and get:  "Config Error  The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration..."

I see nothing wrong with the file web.config.   Any help would be nice.

Tom

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

solved this by changing the asp.net version to 4.0

Next was a security problem solved by putting the level to 'full' and it's building now.

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

But after the good build I selected the 'home page' to go there and got the security error AGAIN.  I'd once again like some ideas of course.

Thanks, Tom

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

Thanks Joe,

Once again you are on top of the answer and we just didn't look far enough in the Help....

I resolved my issue by running a re-install (repair actually) on the 4.0 install and all is now well... till I screw it up again!

Everyone there (Joe A, Joe D. Sadagh, Jamie) was a huge help to me over the last couple of days getting the style sheets sorted out etc... I would like to buy a round of beer (Guinness of course) on me....

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

Answering my own question again.  Even after a good creation/build from changing the secure level to 'full', (useing the IIS manager) the first page gave a security error again until I renamed web.config out and renamed web.mediumlevel.config to web.config.  (of course you have to put your connection string in it as well).

This worked.

Thanks, Tom

Re: The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration

Hi Tom,

Glad you got it working. If your machine is part of a windows domain, it is possible that medium trust is pushed down by group policy and will override you local configuration.

Phil, thanks for the beers as always! Feel like I'm getting all the beer for the others who have helped ;-D Wish there was a way I could pass them around easily.

Best,

Joe
