Embedded Spreadsheet

Is there any way I can embed an XLS file into the body of a page so it can be modified and saved directly on the site, or is there a better way to do this?  We want to be able to display an editable spreadsheet that all of our employees can view and modify without having to download and upload again.

Just a quick google finds a couple possible ways

I'm not sure about browser compatibility for the Microsoft way, it may require an Active X control which would be IE only, not sure though.
