App_MasterPages/Layout.master is being used... what'd I do wrong?

App_MasterPages/Layout.master is being used... what'd I do wrong?

So on the last site I've created with the source code (.net 3.5) from just a few days ago on SQL the App_MasterPages/layout.master file is what is being used instead of the layout.master file in my skin directory.  Though the css files in my skin directory are being used.

Hi ,

Whenever failed to load layout.master from site skins , load App_MasterPages/layout.master by default so your site not be down. Check layout.master in your skin folder(yoursite/data/sites[siteId]/skins/[yourskinfolder]. Do you touch it?

Thanks for your reply, ironically I just stumbled on the fix. 

It is a custom skin, so I did touch it (heavily) and I left out the "leftContent" which causes it to fail, which as you stated, causes it to fall back. 

I stumbled on this looking at the system logs.
