Fasthosts and mojoPortal

Hi guys, i thought i would offer some feedback with regards installing mojoportal on fasthhosts. In short, dont. There was another post on here where a user was able to get it working. Unfortunately this was not the case for me even though i had offered the same advice on here to fasthosts support.

Basically, in created my package, uploaded the mojo deployment zip for 3.5, extracted it, created and configured the database and was good to go. When i ran mojo setup i get the internal errror 500. After some updates to my web.config (for error reporting), the issue was due to trust levels. I tried medium and full (fasthosts didnt seem to know which they used) and neither worked. After a few hours to support i got fed up and, as i shouldve in the beginning, signed up with Arvixe.

Arvixe were prompt, polite and best of all, officially supported mojo (even offering a free setup of mojo on my package).

Do yourself a favour, if you want mojo hosted with ASP.NET 4.0, follow Joe's advice and host with Arvixe.

Good luck.

Re: Fasthosts and mojoPortal

That's valuable feedback, thanks for posting your experiences. There are actually two hosts (so far) that are mojoPortal certified and recommended. Arvixe and i7 Media. Arvixe has been getting a lot of love here lately (and from all accounts it's well justified), but I've seen Joe D. of i7 Media busting his behind on these forums for a very long time too! cool

And one other thing I have heard consistently: Stay away from hosting on "Start Papa", if you know what I mean... I have a feeling all of their budget goes into advertising rather than quality and service. sad

Re: Fasthosts and mojoPortal

It is a really good sale today at Arvixe!

I also do share the love for i7MEDIA and am very glad to be able to highly recommend both Arvixe and i7MEDIA. There are a lot of hosts out there and the quality can vary quite a bit, but I feel confident recommending both of these hosts because they are both excellent and I know that anyone who uses them is going to have a good experience.

Arvixe is a big host that can handle a lot of volume and provides a high level of quality and service. The very fact that  they hired a community liaison for our community I think says a lot about their commitment to customer satisfaction and their commitment to supporting open source projects.

Where I think i7MEDIA really shines is when you want someone to handle all of the technical details, not just installation but even post installation stuff like setting up the site email and other configuration details, and upgrades when new releases of mojoPortal come out. For people who don't know what a hosting control panel is and don't want to, i7MEDIA is a place where you can get all of that handled for you by mojoPortal experts. My Aunt and Uncle needed a web site for their business not long ago and they are not techies at all, so I referred them to i7MEDIA and they have been very happy with their site and were able to focus on their site content and not worry about technical aspects. Plus i7MEDIA provides great design services and other kinds of mojoPortal support like training when you need it. Of course they don't mind hosting more technical do it yourself types either. Joe Davis of i7MEDIA is a proven mojoPortal expert and our Community Manager and has helped countless people in our forums. He has continuously earned my trust and admiration by both his kindness and integrity.

So really you can't go wrong with either of these hosts and it is great to be able to have such good hosts that can cover the range from non-technical types to do it yourself types who like to mange things themselves.

Best,

Joe
