Is PIE worthy of mojoportal?

Hi Joe,

I came across this article this morning and wondered whether it might be of interest:

http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2010/07/27/ie-css3-pie/

I have noticed in the site I am developing my mojo-tabs have nice round corners in FF and Chrome but square in IE (as expected) and wondered about adding this into my skin which looks fairly straight forward I think (download into skin and link to it in the masterpage - not tested it yet...). Although it is in beta I wondered whether it might be worth incorporating into mojoportal so (certain parts of) skins looks more consistent across all browsers?

Regards

Andrew

Re: Is PIE worthy of mojoportal?

Hi Andrew,

It is interesting, but it has pros and cons. In any case it is a skin thing and would need to be implemented in the skin according to the needs of the skin and anyone could use it in their own skin if they choose to do so.

It does not require a new feature in mojoPortal.

For example you could drop the htc file into your skin folder and in the ie specific css files you could add entries that use it as needed to round corners or whatever else it helps with.

From the comments on that page it sounds like there are some performance issues with that kind of solution.

Best,

Joe

Re: Is PIE worthy of mojoportal?

Andy,

I just finished a dual-skin setup (about 3 hours ago) for a portal at work using CSS3 Pie. It's by far the best HTC to use, especially after spending probably 6 hours trying to get divs with rounded corners that resized, could accept a gradient (I would have used a bg image) and has a shadow. I've tested thus far on IE8, 7, FF and Opera and everything looks great. I had previously tried ie-css3.htc, rounded-corners.htc as well as curvycorners and niftycorners. CSS3 Pie was the only one that worked right for what I needed. When we go live, I'll post a link, but for now it's still in dev.

It worked like a charm in a completely modified skin.

Re: Is PIE worthy of mojoportal?

Hi Greatwide,

Glad to hear that it worked well, haven't needed to use it myself but good to have a positive testimonial for when I do.

Look forward to seeing the design once the site goes live :-)

Cheers

Andrew

Re: Is PIE worthy of mojoportal?

Hi Greatwide,

I've started a new thread ("Incorporating CSS PIE into a custom skin") as this one didn't seem quite the place and is getting on a bit; I'm hoping that you'll be able to post some help there following your success as your the only person ever to mention CSS PIE in the forums!

Fingers crossed,
