VS 2010 will be out April 12

20 days and counting.

Have you tried mojo on 2010 RC Joe?  If mojo's stable on it, how long after the release do you plan to upgrade us to it?
I suspect the 3rd party add-in's will dictate if we say on 3.5 or move to 4.0

Just sitting here with a beer thinking out load and I thought I'd beat everyone to posting the question first.

I really think VS 2010 and Artisteer 2.4 will spice up my rather dull development world.

Re: VS 2010 will be out April 10

Hi Rick,

I have not installed any betas or RCs of VS 2010. Once the final version is released I will install it. If VS 2010 needs to upgrade the project and solution files it will be a pain in the arse much like we had when VS 2008 came out where I will have to make separate project and solution files for VS 2010 in order to keep support for VS 2008. If needed, I will do this as I definitely want to use VS 2010 when it comes out.

However, I think the more important question is when will we change the target platform to .NET 4 and I'm afraid that for an app such as mojoPortal with a lot of existing sites already deployed under .NET 3.5, as much as I'm eager to take advantage of new features in .NET 4, we cannot afford to be early adopters, we need to wait probably 1 year just as we waited a year to change the target from 2.0 .NET to 3.5 SP1. We have a lot of customers and cannot force them all to upgrade to .NET 4 immediately.

Best,

Joe

Re: VS 2010 will be out April 10

Thanks for the reply Joe.

I never thought about the hundreds of mojo users that will not be able to have 4.0 for months or a year+.  Laurena Poot (my manager) and I both have a Windows VPS account here which is cheap and nice for having complete control of our mojoPortal environments.

Yes...  I remember now how long it took Rainbow Portal to move from 1.1 to 2.0. An eternity!

Re: VS 2010 will be out April 10

I have to say, I've been using the Beta of VS 2010 for a few months now, and I love it!  I haven't gotten a chance to use .NET 4.0 features yet, but 2010 is very nice!  I look forward to getting the actual release in a few weeks!

Re: VS 2010 will be out April 10

I'm looking forward to it myself!

Keep in mind that it should be possible for developers to target .NET 4 for custom features even though we need to wait a while to change the target for mojoPortal and included features. I suppose it will also be possible for anyone producing their own builds to change the target of the mojo projects to .NET 4. But I will be keeping things targeting 3.5 in svn for quite a while and my official releases will continue to target 3.5 for a while.

Best,

Joe
