Running php modules in a mojoportal module?

The Forum in mojoportal is functional, but missing a lot of features (search, files, messaging between users) , and my workload here at the office doesn't give me the time to add those features myself.

I was going to use an open source forum such as http://www.ultimabb.com/ but thought wouldn't it be nice if there was a wrapper to run the php site within a module?  Do you think something like this is feasable?   I want to keep everything in one portal and not have my users have to pop back and forth between two browsers if they don't have to...

Any thoughts Joe?

Re: Running php modules in a mojoportal module?

I don't know of a good way to run php apps in mojoportal. Might be feasible inside an iframe but then its really a different site with its own db and users. Not real feasible to come up with a generic way to share user data with other apps that I know of.

We do have search, messaging is planned, not sure what you mean by files, seems like there would be security risks in allowing file attachments except from maybe trusted users. An admin can already upload a file in File Manager then create a link to it in a forum post.

Re: Running php modules in a mojoportal module?

I was just thinking of using it as a bandaid solution until mojoportal's forum was more mature...   Does the search function at the top also search the forums?  Never even thought of that...   By files I was meaning users sending each other small (size limit) files to each other.   For example sometimes the marketing dept will be writing messages to each other as a group discussion and someone can post a logo for the rest to use...

Just thinking outloud!  I want to steer away having to maintain many seperate systems and want everything imcorporated into one.  (mojoportal)...

If only the job didn't get in the way I'd have more time to tinker!

Yes the search does also search the forums.

When we build the private message system we will support attachments.

Users can also subscribe to forum notifications so they will get an email when a forum post is made.
