Skin issues with new version

  • What operating system were you running when the bug appeared?
  • What database platform is your site using?
  • What version of mojoPortal are you running?
  • What version of .NET do you use?
  • What steps are necessary to reproduce the issue? Compare expected results vs actual results.

Skin issues with new version

skin thumbsI upgrade to newest version (from the older one installed by MS platform installer) and I also added at user.config the option to show icons instead of text links for editing content settings.

At several skins (several ones near the end of the list of skins [except the last two LOTR-like ones) have an issue with the "Administration" etc. links bar. They show almost hidden and only when mouse moves over them they show in readable color. Also in some of those skins that linksbar text is concatenated with no gabs between items there.

Another thing I noticed is that I copied 36 skins folders  to Data/Sites/1/Skins but only see 35 of them in the preview (plus I'd like to be able to press some link/button on the preview to select a skin, not have to close preview and go to dropdown list to select it having to browse through a list of names and remember what skin name I liked). Else could have skin thumbs [could be fixed/premade, no need to be dynamic if they're smallish] and show them in the dropdown list (easy to find one then after you've seen the preview). Will need a DHTML dropdown of course for that

Hi George,

I specifically re-designed most of the included skins to use links instead of icons in this release. If you wanted to continue using the icons you should not have copied the skins from /Data/skins into /Data/Sites/1/skins but should have kept the ones you already had. You can download the previous release to get them back.

There has been a lot of consensus that the links are more user friendly than the icons and this has been proven to me by various support issues over the years where people don't know what the icons are for.

The dropdown list filters out the printerfriendly skin as it is not meant to be used directly as a site skin, therefore 35 instead of 36.

I agree it would be nice to have a select button in the skin preview dialog to make it select the right one in the dropdown. At some point I will add this.

My opinion on skin icons is its a lot of work to implement and not  a very useful way to preview the skin compared to really seeing it.
