Publish content on multiple pages with one click

It would be great to have a check box on the Content Publishing page that allows you to publish a content module on all pages.

Many of my customers want to have their contact information (or other stuff they want visitors to see all the time) on every page, having the ability to check one box and the content would then show up in the same place on all current and future pages would save a lot of time. Publishing an item on each page is time consuming and when you add a new page, you have to remember to go publish the content item on that page.

Thanks!
Joe

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

My general feeling is that anything that should be on all pages should be in the layout.master file of the skin. If it needs to be editable then you can create an html module, get the module id and then set it up in the layout.master file using the ModuleWrapper control as described here:
http://www.mojoportal.com/same-content-on-all-pages.aspx

The content manager definitely needs some re-vamping. It needs to be possible to page through the list of pages instead of showing them all in a single page. Otherwise if you get sites with thousands of pages it will get out of hand. Maybe we will implement something where it can select a page of checkboxes at a time but certainly we don't want to select a thousand checkboxes. I don't even want to show a list of a thousand pages all at once, but currently thats what it would do. I plan to do some re-vamping of the whole content manager feature in the near future.

Best,

Joe

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

While I agree that in most cases content that needs to be on all pages should be in the layout.master, it is not always the case and for those using mojoPortal that have no clue how to modify code, this is something of a hindrance. Most of my customers would fall into the category of not knowing how to modify the code. While I could do it, I would have to charge for it which is not bad for me except that it is such a small mundane task and I could be doing other things that make me more money.

I know one wouldn't want every user to be able to publish to every page so if this capability was added, it should be limited to Site Admins or some other group.

Thanks!
Joe

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

Could i just add to this, that it might actually be really beneficial to be able to copy a content slot to all pages (rather than sharing to all pages)

A good scenerio would be setting up the general strucuture of the site for a client, and then saying to that client that its all in place, and all you need to do is go into each page and edit the content. ie every page has a title, content and a image slot

Hope this is relevant to your post joe, I do think a copy or share to all pages would be a fantastic addition to what is already a great cms :)

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

Hey Joe,

I am going to beat this drum again.  I now have a client that would like to include a new content module on a lot of pages but not all pages. The current process for adding the content to all of these pages requires using the content manager to publish the content on each page and this requires a lot of clicks. If one was able to select the content and column and then select the pages to publish it to with one update, the process would be a lot quicker and smoother. A big drawback here would be the potential for having a lot of checkboxes on the page and a user would probably not be able to focus on all them. Maybe if the page showed all of the pages in a hierarchial manner and the selection of pages to publish the content on could be made by selecting parent pages and all subsequent pages would automatically be selected. Think of how a lot of backup programs allow you to select what is going to be backed up, that's what I'm thinking of here.

Hopefully I am making sense and not just rambling. :-)

Is this something you would consider including in mojo?

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

Hey Joe,

Yes I plan to revamp the content manager pages but there are lots of priorities competing with that, I can't just drop what I'm doing and do that right now. All I can say is I will get to it when I can.

Best,

Joe

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

Hi,

I too was looking for a solutions to the same issue. A customer of mine wants certain content to appear on some page, but not on all of them.

Hope it will come soon Sealed

Maybe I can contribute such a change if you could point me in the right direction on how to do it?

Re: Publish content on multiple pages with one click

Hi,

This functionality already exists to put content on more than one specific page, what Joe is asking for is one click to put them on ALL pages.

Note that publishing on multiple pages is only supported by some features like html Content, Google Maps, Contact Form, but not Blog, Forum, WebStore and other more complex features.

To publish on more than one page go to Administration > Content Manager

From there you can either find existing content or create new content, then click the Publish/Delete link to see where you can publish it on any pages.

Hope it helps,

Joe
