Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

Hi Joe,

first of all: Excellent work! I never thought i could get a Content-Management-System running on my Web-Server so fast.

But now i'm stuck in a problem, may you have an idea:

To get a german and english version of my site in place i'm using "Multiple Sites Based on Folder Names".
I'm pretty sure i did all, thats needed and described in: www.mojoportal.com/multiplesitesbasedonfoldernames.aspx
The english version has the subfolder /english. The empty "Default.aspx" is in place. The web.config is edited accordingly.

But all i get is the empty "Default.aspx", not the second site.
Any ideas what i should check?

best regards
Thomas

PS: I'm using a Windows 2003 virtual server (root access) with IIS6.
MojoPortal: 2.3.0.1 Released 2009-04-20

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

Hi there, too bad noone has an idea.

I have spent hours to find the cause. But regardless of what i tried (localhost-installation , installation on my web-Server) when i try to acces the child site via folder name all i get is the empty content of the "Default.aspx", not the second child site.

Is anyone using the Multiple Site Feature with the current version? May there is a bug?

best regards
Thomas

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

Ok, i have found the cause.

May i should read the documentation more exactly.

Since i test Mojoportal i have installed it in a subdirectory like localhost/mojoportal.

Then the Multiple Sites feature will not work, the root in my case need to be in localhost.

best regards
Thomas

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

Hi bibek,

you have to place the mojoportal folders and contents into the root-folder of your website, not in any subfolder. That solved in my case (and is already written in the documentation somewhere...)

best regards

Thomas

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

Hi there,

Is there any way we can access folder based multiple site using virtual directory. I have created the virtual directory within my default site. I can access only the main site. But i want to access child site which is for spanish version of the main site using virtual directory. Is there any way to do that??

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

I'm having the same problem here.  I've got the main site running fine, updated the two settings in the Web.config, created a new site per the instructions but I don't see the drop down described in the documentation.  I'm sure I missed something but I can't seem to find it.  Any thoughts?

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

The dropdown was removed a few versions back and replaced with a page "Site List"

Hope that helps,

Joe

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

Still fails and I can't seem to get the log to clear to check for errors.  I tried the same steps several times; production site on Arvixe works perfect.  I'll dig around maybe there is something else I missed.

Re: Problems with folder based Multiple Sites

failure to clear the log is an indication that file system permissions are not correct. It can no longer write to the log file so it cannot clear the log.

The /Data folder and all child folders and files as well as the /App_Data folder all need to be writable by the user that is the identity oin the application pool.
