Footer "Your Company" change

Hi,

My pages have a footer that contains "2008 - 2009 Your Company", how do I change this? I have had a look through the site settings and can not find a setting for it.

You have to edit it in the layout.master file of your skin.

I have updated the layout.master file but it has not updated on the web page. I have closed my browser and deleted all tmp files and connected to the site again but it has still not updated. Is there anything else I need to do?

Are you sure you updated the right file. The skin files used by the site are at /Data/Sites/[SiteID]/skins/[SkinName]

where SiteID isusually 1 for a single site installation and SkinName is the name as you see it in Site Settings.

The skins under /Data/skins are just a catalog where skins come from when creating a new site.

Yep, that's the one. I am using the skin styleshout-techmania.

Just got it working by changing the skin the changing it back.

If you customise the skin I recommend you rename it to avoid any possibility of overwriting your customization during upgrades when the styleshout-techmania skin may be updated. Change to a different skin temporarily, rename styleshout-techmania to something custom then change back to it using the new name.

I want to remove the XHTML, CSS, etc links from the footer. I am planning to keep powered by mojoPortal though. How can I do that?

like Joe say up in this post You have to edit it in the layout.master file of your skin, this file is under Data/Sites/1/skins/(The name of your skin)

look for this in your layout.master and delete the lines that you dont want

The only way I can think for this doesn't work is if you change the wrong skin, be sure you are changing the skin under your /Data/Sites/1/skins/mySkin

Man, I am tired, hussssssssssssssh

I changed the it again, deleted the links i dont want from the skin file - dint work.

i deleted other skin folders - dint work

i renamed <myskin> folder with an underscore.. - dint work

i added a space in web.config, reopened the URL - dint work

i pinged the website from command prompt to check the ip address, it shows the address of my host server!

moreover, i was able to change the skin from the 35 available skins under site admin settings!

PLEASE HELP WHAT MAYBE GOING WRONG :(

I would also check the log for clues under Administration > System log.

If you make any mistake when editing the layout.master file it can cause an error and fail to load your layout.master file. In that case it falls back to a safe layout.master file and logs the error so it doesn't crash your site.

But why am i able to see the preview and set the different themes when i have deleted the skin folders physically. Also, I am able to see the selected theme when i have renamed the particular theme folder.

I checked the system log, there seems to be nothing special :(

There was a skin folder as a sibling to sites and i was making the changes there :(

I AM VERY SORRY! ALL MY MISTAKE :(

You can edit header and footer in the layout.master file of the skin.

See the article More than 3 content panes

However, unless your header and footer are changing frequently I think it is better to just edit it in the layout.master because every editable content instance you add to a page adds extra database hits needed to create the page. But if you really need to be able to edit those from the ui you can do it.
