Adding sites

When posting in this forum, please try to provide as many relevant details as possible. Particularly the following:

  • What operating system were you running when the bug appeared?
  • What database platform is your site using?
  • What version of mojoPortal are you running?
  • What version of .NET do you use?
  • What steps are necessary to reproduce the issue? Compare expected results vs actual results.

You may also want to review the installation or upgrading documentation.

Hi Joe you replied to a post I made in a rainbow forum. So I took your advice and checked out mojo.  So far so good, the installation was a snap, big sincer Kudos for that!

I have been evaluating portals on and off for the last year. I have so many uses for one but have not been able to commit because it represents a large time investment.

At any rate I have so far had no problems understanding anything in the site save one thing, creating other portals. In your message you said:

But where is the "add a new site" button?

Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

I am logged in as admin
(I changed the username and password in the user table as a standard security procedure.)

Then I went to the Admin->Site Settings page. I don't see anything about adding a new site.

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure how it works with rainbow, its been a while
since I worked with it but you can definitely host
multiple sites easily with one db and 1 web
installation using host names with my project,
mojoportal at http://www.mojoportal.com
In mojoportal you just go to the site admin page for
the root site and add a new site and then add a
hostname to the new site corresponding to your host
header setting in IIS.

I have both www.mojoportal.com and www.joeaudette.com
running on the same installation and db. I developed
the blog module for rainbow a few years ago but
started my own project about a year ago to support
more dbs and to be able to run on mono/apache/linux in
addition to .NET/Windows/IIS

Check it out if you get the chance. You will also
notice much friendlier urls than a typical rainbow
site.

Hi Dave,

I guess it isn't that obvious but it is easy. Go to Admin > Site Settings
In the upper right next to the site name is a dropdown list, choose New Site, then you can name the site and hit save. After that you will see more options for ading host names and determining which features are available in the new site.

From the root site you can change site settings for any other site using the same installation. If everything else is setup in IIS, just open a new browser and nvaigate to the new host. You can login as admin@admin.com in the new site but when you look in the site settings there, you will see that only the root site has the feature to create additional sites. Each site can set its own site settings but the root site admin can set them for any site.

Wow, no I didn't even notice it. Perhaps a more straightforward "Add portal" link right on the admin menu? Well I'm to new to it to make many  suggestions yets :)

I'm just getting started on some skinng experiments. This one is coming along

Wow, nice skin for just getting started! Let me know if/when you have any permanent sites I can add to the mojo Sites page.

Glad you are finding it easy to work with, that is the goal. There are only a few of us working on it but it is a labor of love.

Feel free to make suggestions and post any trouble you have and we'll do our best to help.

Maybe you can contribute some new skins to the collection at some point, looks like you're pretty good at it.
