Running a Child Site from prompt

I have several Child or Sub sites I created using the Folder method.  They have been running well for a long time but I do have an issue that I have not been able to resolve.

When I type the address of a child/sub site I have to add Default.aspx or it will error out.

My questions is can I type in the site name (www.MyRoot.com/Site3) and have the site load or do I have to continue to type the full qualified path www.MyRoot.com/Site3/Default.aspx ?

(FYI - the child site has actual names like "Retirement" and "SailingLife" etc.)
