New installation 2.3.9.8 skin issue in IE10

New installation 2.3.9.8 skin issue in IE10

Perhaps not a bug, but a gotcha for new users... a new installation of 2.3.9.8 on MSSQL, when accessed in IE10, is unusable, e.g. the Administration page has no icons. Turning on compatibility view fixes it, or using another browser.

I'm not seeing any problems in IE 10 on my local machine nor our demo site

Agreed - the demo site is fine. Odd. I did a vanilla install from codeplex download, on server that is running other sites already. I copied in a user.config from another working site, but nothing weird in it. Here's the site: http://shep.esdm.co.uk/ .

You'll see the problem immediately I think. And the admin page has no icons - they flash visible for a moment then vanish on loading the page. It's the same from work or home for me, so not just a problem on one machine.

Any diagnosis very welcome!

I just visited your site with IE 10 and do not see any problems though the site only has one content page and I had no way to see the admin section.

Ah now I see the problem is caused by compatibility view, not solved by it (it's not easy to tell whether it is on or off!).  So not a problem for me. Incidentally, on the demo site I get no admin icons either, with CV switched on.

Aside: I've noticed that the "base" jqueryui theme used by default in the art41-megamenu skin is giving a 404 (http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.2/themes/base/jquery-ui.css) so tabs don't work etc.

I see on the demo site it is calling 1.10.0

I guess I missed that one skin in version 2.3.9.8, I thought I had already changed all skins to not use base which apparently no longer exists.

Just to note as well that the Artisteer 41 skins shipped recently and used on the demo site do not work in IE7 - same visual effects as with IE10 in compatibility view.  Easy to see this by using F12 in IE and setting it to IE7 browser mode.

I have this problem with a new site I've setup copying one of these skins (mega menu), so any fixes appreciated. When I get time to look properly I'll post if I find the cause.

Right, Artisteer and most others have dropped support for IE 7 these days as part of moving on to html 5.

If someone really needs IE 7 support it is possible to design a skin that works ok, but it is not really a big concern for us for skins we ship if there are cosmetic problems in IE 7.

OK noted, thanks.  Unfortunately in the UK large institutions (especially government) like to keep their staff on ancient browsers, and still expect everything to work.

One possible option for sites that need to support older browsers is to use the older Artisteer 3.1 skins that are in our extra-skins.zip file. I believe they still supported IE 7 back then.
