Draft content publishing

Draft content publishing

Would it be possible to change the Content Workflow System so that the 'Request Approval for this Draft Content Instance' button is replaced by a simple 'publish' button for those with publishing rights?

The ability to publish draft content is really useful, as it provides an opportunity to check the text, layout, links, etc. Currently if I make changes to a html content feature in draft and decide I'm happy with it and want to publish I have to click Edit > Publish or request approval for the content and then approve it myself. The latter irritates my colleagues by firing emails at them (but is nevertheless tempting as it's slightly quicker).

A single 'publish' button for those with sufficient rights would be much nicer. It's a minor thing, but when you're making a lot of changes it would make a big difference.

Hi Mike, we have the same situation as you. This has been requested in the past, and Joe will be doing it, but it's not implemented yet.

Hi Jamie,

I "think" the thread you linked is from before we added a direct publish button on the edit page. This is the first time I've heard a request that it be added as another icon in the module title.

We are talking about saving one click here. I'm logging the request in our project tracker now but not sure how soon it might become a priority, probably not soon.

Okay, thank you Joe, I guess I misunderstood the request. We've been behind on versions lately, so I am not 100% up to speed on the current codeline. Having a direct publish button within edit will be enough for us, so no rush from my perspective at least.

I looked into this and it turned out to be easy since we already had an approval button. I added a config setting to also show it for editors when a draft has not been submitted but it is false by default so you'll need to add this in user.config:

<add key="WorkflowShowPublishForUnSubmittedDraft" value="true"/>

then it will work after the next release or if you deploy a build of the latest source code.

I did search to see if this had been requested already and found Crispin's post, but since he was the one who suggested I make the request here assumed that it must be a different issue.

I'm glad that it's been so easy to implement.

Great to hear this is coming. The other thread mentioned above was back in the day when you could not publish from the "Edit" interface either without requesting approval. That was improved a few versions ago.
