popup forms from a custom module

I am new to Mojoportal and to asp.net. Can you provide me information on what I would use to initiate a popup form from my base custom module via a button? I have seen posts about the colorbox but don't know if that is the right object to use or not.

Take a look on the source code for ContactForm / MessageListDialog.

It should be a starting point.
