Document Library on Intranet

I'm looking at creating a document library on our Intranet. We already store the documents within a windows folder with sub folders for categories, is there any way to display the contents of the windows folder in a similar way to this DNN module http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=23742

Alternatively could the Shared Files Module  be used and the documents stored in their native format e.g. PDF DOC XLS instead of encrypting them?
