Bing fails to recognize their validation tag entered into the Meta section of my homepage

Hi all,

I have finally figured out the obscurities of Bing's Webmaster tools, and I am at present trying to add my site and varify it (since I used my other email address considering my domain is going to change in a bit), and so since I can touch neither the IIS server to place Bing's Auth.xml file on, nor can I touch the DNs server to add records, I figured, okay, i'll use their authentication tag.  Though the instructions state for people to put it directly into the HTML markup, but considering we have it easier by having fields to enter it into, I used that method instead.  I added an additional meta element (unsure the difference between the link and element field), and hit save.  Bing still does not recognize that their content and name are there right as I copied them in their respective fields.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks.  I am really trying to learn to do this, so any advice you have, would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Bing fails to recognize their validation tag entered into the Meta section of my homepage

To use their authentication tag, I would follow their instructions and paste it directly in the head element in the layout.master file of the skins used on your site. The built in support for meta elements is for use on a page by page basis and isn't designed for the meta element that bing wants for authentication.

The best approach would be if you know someone who can access the server then have that person drop in the auth.xml file and be done with it.

Hope that helps,

Joe

Okay thanks!  I'll put in for it then.  By the way, how should I be using the Meta fields in Mojo portal?  Like what info actually belongs in there?  I'm interested because my goal is to learn as much as I can.  and when it comes to tag embedding on other things, what is the best way to go about that if mojo portal doesn't support HTML editors?

Re: Bing fails to recognize their validation tag entered into the Meta section of my homepage

Hi,

You can use the meta elements in the page settings for this because Bing just wants to verify that you own the site you are trying to setup in their tools. They don't use it for anything besides that.

Chromebuster is on i7MEDIA hosting so I fixed this issue for her. The problem in this case was that the settings weren't filled in properly. The Name should be "msvalidate.01" and the Content should be the key that Bing generates for you.

Thanks,
Joe D.

If one is not an html markup wiz, which I'm not yet, then is there any other way that I would have known that in order to fill it in properly?  Are there any possible documents that you guys recommend in particular for people learning about this?  Thanks.
