mass Upload of images

Hello list

Today I have got sucssessfull installed mojoPortal 2.2.9.5 . My System is Scientific Linux 5.4 (similar with RHEL 5.4) and a self compiled installation of Mono 2.6.9

Currently i am searching something to upload Images in masses. My Custumer is a Cologne carnival Society they have got more then 20000 pictures from events the last 10 years ago.  Is there a tool available to upload Images in masses?

The people have no skills with html or design and very low skills with Comuters. Currently they are using Drupal 5 and Gallery 2 and the people are not even more happy with it. Because Drupal is to complicated to manage they site from themself. They asked me to give them something what is more simply. So im am trying mojoPortal :)

Another question. All images will be stored in the Database right? That will be nice for hosting for me.

Re: mass Upload of images

Hi,

To be honest, I would not recommend using Linux/Mono for any important production site running mojoPortal, it is hit or miss with each release of Mono and it has been that way for as long as I have been involved with Mono. If you have no choice but to run Linux I would say your mileage may vary as to how well it works and how reliable it is. You may be able to get satisfactory results but I can't promise it.

In the newer versions of mojoPortal we have bulk upload for images in the image gallery.

Images are stored on disk not in the db.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: mass Upload of images

Hi Joe

Thank you for your Respond :)

I am not finished with testing. So I'm still trying:)

I hope that you mean that Linux is not the stuff that Novel is shipping. SuSE Linux is something whats looking nice. But it was all the years always a buggy OS. I know it since 2001 ago. I have downloaded the VMware Box with SuSE and Mono preinstalled. It's a shame and a desaster. The simpliest things doesn't work. After them i have watched the specfiles of the RPM's from Novel. Currently I am building RPM's für RHEL with Mono. The way whats Novel going is not my way. With this work what there are shiping on the SuSE Buildserver, you never can succesfull deploy a production Server. It's a real shame and makes me sick. The best Joke was, that i have found in the Configfiles german an english text. English isn't my mother language. I am able to read almost what is written in it and i can write a little bit. But for stuff there haves to ship worldwide in many Countrys, i think it's importent for understanding to write it in clean english. For me the almost products from Novel are like a lame Duck. That shouldn't be a flamewar. It's just that what i can tell after 12 years working with GNU Linux.

So if you think SuSE is a GNU Linux reference OS. Please take a look on Redhat Enterprise Linux or just the big one called Debian :)

I have downloaded this old release of mojoPortal because I didn't know that the Sourcecode and the Binary are moved to Codeplex. I suggest you something like a Link that the people tell they shouldn't go to Sourceforge :) After many years, it's a automatic usage for me and many people to go to Sourceforge and Freshmeat if OpenSource Software is needed.

So long I am still cooking. Maybe i will submit prebuilded packages with Mono and Mojoportal and Cuyahoga in the future.

best regards

Darko

Re: mass Upload of images

Hi,

I'm not criticizing Linux at all, I'm saying I don't currently have enough confidence in Mono as a web platform to recommend it for important production sites regardless of which Linux distro is used. There are always issues and bugs to some degree when running complex ASP.NET WebForms applications on Mono. You may get things working fine and to your satisfaction but I personally would not want to have to support real customers using Mono. In my experience with Mono since 2004 I have not yet found it to be consistently reliable. With each new release you get some fixes and some new bugs or regressions and there is always a good chance of breaking your site when you upgrade to a newer version of Mono.

I would like to have more confidence in Mono because there would be great opportunities distributing mojoPortal on virtual appliances but, I would not have confidence that I could support the appliance effectively at this point. There will be problems that I cannot solve for the customer because they are issues in Mono not in mojoPortal. The only thing I could do is report the issues to the Mono team and then wait for the next release or else try to keep up with Mono built from svn to get bug fixes quicker. Therefore I do not feel I can be sure of customer satisfaction and would not recommend it for important production sites. Maybe one day that will change but that is my opinion today.

Best,

Joe
