Delete files for ALL roles

We recently found out that not ALL roles (content auther, publisher, etc) are able to delete files in the "File Browser". This poses a problem, these roles can edit content and upload files but are unable to delete files uploaded. This will lead to a mess on the server over time. We set up clients with the author/publisher role and let them at their sites, we feel deleting files is critical.

Currently, these roles are restricted to the "media" folder which was an excellent improvement, how do others (well Joe) feel about allowing all site authoring type of roles the ability to also delete files as well as upload them (but only from the media folder)?

Re: Delete files for ALL roles

Hi Eric,

If you look in Site Settings > Security > Permissions, we have a permission for "Roles that can delete files using the file browser in the editor". So you can add roles that you trust to delete files to this permission. So you can enable whoever you like to delete from the file browser, it si only limited to admins and content admins by default.

I treat deleting of files a little more strictly than uploading files because a person can delete files that they did not upload and users may delete files like images that are used in pages they don't know about thus causing 404s and broken image urls. So I see delete as requiring even more confidence in the user's judgement than is needed for upload permission. That is why I made it a separate permission from upload.

Best,

Joe
