Generate RSS feeds of images or files

I suggest an administration menu item that would automatically generate a RSS feed of a folder in my mojo site.

I'm looking into Flash slideshow applications to add to my site. The trick to them is telling them what images to display. A lot of the top notch applications use a RSS feed to images as their source. This got me thinking ... If I had an RSS feed URL to a folder under my site where I upload a bunch of documents then I don't have to manually create links to those documents. Since my suggestion lacks the right words to use, i'll explain in terms of how I would use it.

One usage:

I create a folder under my site "User Manuals". I upload a bunch of PDFs into this folder.

On the Administrator Menu, I would imagine seeing my suggestion "RSS Feed Generator". Here I would create a new feed by choosing the folder path and maybe the file types I want on the feed like PDF or maybe JPG or even general phrases like "All Images (jpg, gif, png, etc)".

Now I add a feature "Feeds Manager" and point the RSS feed realtive to my site like you do with image uploads "Other ~/root" and choose the newly created Feed Generator.

Second Usage:

Go through the same as above, but instead of using a feed manager feature, I would use the RSS feed as the source to the Flash slideshow.

Flash slideshow idea:

Re: Generate RSS feeds of images or files

Hi,

Its an interesting idea, I like it and will keep it in mind as I don't think it would be difficult to implement. It would require some careful thought to make sure its secure and doesn't expose files that we don't want exposed, probably by making a specific folder and only showing files from that folder and its sub folders.

Best,

Joe
