Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Dear Admin,

We would like to develope one hosted solution using Mojo Portal. It would be great if  you answer following queries:-

1) Does Mojo Portal suport multi websites similar to what Rainbow Portal/Dot Net Nuke supports. I mean to ask If we create one website application in IIS server with  single database and want to host multiple websites (different pages/contents) ?

2) If sites are in 100s, does Mojo Portal supports some kind of multiple server environments to maintain maximum uptime. This is for both Application Server and Database Server?

3) Does Mojo Portal supports Web Parts and latest Ajax Toolkit?

3) Is there any licence to use mojo portal or we can use for our product.

Thanks and Regards
Imran

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Hi,

1. http://www.mojoportal.com/muliplesites.aspx

2. We do not yet support web farms but you can have a failover cluster for the web server and any kind of multi server setup for the database.

3. We use the latest ajaxtoolkit for 3.5 .NET. Our Web Parts story is mainly in our MyPage Feature. You can use some web parts in content system pages too but there is no web part manager there so there is no personalization state. Most of the mojoportal features expose the ability to use them as webparts in mypage so you can populate the web part catalog using content system instances.

4. Licensing information is here, you cannot change the license of mojoPortal but you can package and distribute your custom features with mojoPortal and you can license your own features as you wish. But somewhere in the fine print you must mention that the package includes mojoPortal which is licensed under the Common Public License 1.0. Note that if you are making a hosted solution and not redistributing the software there are no restrictions at all as to how you may use mojoPortal. Licensing is mainly about redistributing it in binary or source code form. There are no provisions in the license that limit what you may use it for.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Thanks for your kind reply.

Yes we are going to use mojo portal as hosted solution (CRM) and I have another query regarding the multiple website.

We will not use multiple websites as a separate domain name. We want to create multiple portals for differnet clients, but the domain will be same e.g. www.ourcrm.com. There will be only one login page for all users. When the user logged in, the portal is loaded based on his credentials and with which portal it belongs to!  Is this possible? Please advise.

Thanks and Regards,
Imran

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

That doesn't sound like multiple sites at all. It sounds like one site with different sections for different clients.

One way to do it is to define a role corresponding to each client, then create a top level page corresponding to each client and set the view roles/edit roles on the page as needed to correspond to the client. You can then create as many pages as are needed beneath each client's top node so that basically you have a sub tree for each client. Once you set the roles on the top level page by default any new pages created beneath it will inherit the same roles.

If clients are only in the role corresponding to them then they will not see or have access to other client pages, though the admin user will see all the pages clients will only see the ones for their role.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Thats great idea, Thanks a lot.

We will look into our requirements and see if it suits us more.

However, If we go for multiple websites, how do we access with single domain. I assume that there will be some alias passed to domain name as parameter like wwww.ourcrm.com/default.aspx?portal=abc   Am I correct?

Secondly, Does every website will have its own admin/users to manager ?

Regards,
Imran

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Using multiple sites will not achieve the goal of a single login page.

You can use folder based sites http://www.mojoportal.com/multiplesitesbasedonfoldernames.aspx

by default sites are completely independant with different admins, roles, and users, however we have also a RelatedSitesMode config setting that allows sharing the users and roles across sites.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Hi Joe

I think they need a module like the Site Provision Pro.

Best,

Re: Multi Websites/Hosted Solution

Well, maybe and maybe not, but I can't suggest features that do not exist yet.

Best,
