Search Provider URL

Is there a variable I put at the end of the SearchResults.aspx URL so that I can create a link to a pre-defined search? Basically, I would like to create a "Search Provider" for IE and FireFox for my website.

IE: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx
FF: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_OpenSearch_plugins_for_Firefox

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Search Provider URL

Hi Joe,

Mind if I call you Joseph? We already have a Joe Davis in the community I'm going to mix you up sooner or later ;-)

This looks interesting, I was not familiar with these search provider definition files. It looks pretty straightforward, I will try and integrate support for this with autodiscovery in mojoPortal for the next release.

Currently our search page only works with POST requests not querystring GET requests, but I may change this to make it easier to implement this.

Not sure about the json search suggestion stuff though, that may be a taller order.

Best,

Joe

Re: Search Provider URL

Okay, this can get confusing. This is the "other" Joe Davis. I posted the original question here right after setting up my Yahoo account as my login. Looks like I did something wrong and created myself a new mojoPortal account.

So Joe, this is Joe and you can delete the other Joe's account. :-)

Sincerely,
Joe's alternate personality

Re: Search Provider URL

Hi Joe,

Well that makes it easier if there is just one of you!

Rather than delete the account I just removed your open id and email address from it so the forum post would still be attached to that user.

If you'd like to associate your yahoo or any of the open id accounts to your existing user, sign in first the normal way, then visit the My Account Page and click the  "Update your Open ID" link. After that you will be able to login using either the normal login or the RPX open id login.

Best,

Joe

Re: Search Provider URL

fyi, I've completed the implementation of OpenSearch with auto discovery, you can try it on this site or the demo site

I actually did quite a lot of improvements in the search which I will blog about later, including the ability to filter by feature and an option for highlighting the search results. You can see it on this site in the search page http://www.mojoportal.com/SearchResults.aspx

you may need to clear the browser cache to get the new CSS to see the highlighting of results.

Cheers,

Joe
