Web Store

Hi Joe,

I'm just playing around again with the software trying to learn how I can change a template for some differences and get a better understanding of CSS. Also I was looking at the web store something I've been waiting for but was wondering if it's fully implemented now?

If so, I was trying to add an item to the products list, filled all the details etc. but I could couldn't get it to appear in the product list on the page, but it was there in the list of items under store manager. Any ideas please? Also whilst i'm here do you have any documentation for this (i'm about to look but thought i'd ask too)?

Hi Adam,

Info about the WebStore is here. The part that is not obvious is that products are not sold directly but via "Offers", so you have to configure offers by adding products and setting the price for the offer. This allows bundling products together into one offer. In most cases there is probably a one to one correspondence between products and offers, at some point I hope to implement a "New Product Wizard" that would walk you through the steps of creating the product and offer to makeit seem more simple, but for now its a separate manual process.

Hi Joe,

That worked now but I have a few more questions please. You have Euro and Dollars as currency. Where are these held as I want to add other currencies i.e. GB Pound. Also where is the tax rate calculated from?

Will the store actually work with multi-sites as this is something I would like to do. Is it something you have to change or it will work but is 'messy' due to a central DB or something?

About mutli sites, it can work but I don't recommend it because there are issues. You could maybe do it if you are only using PayPal, but to use Google Checkout or Authorize.NET you need an SSL certificate. Only 1 SSL certificate can be bound to port 443 for a given ip address so it poses a problem for sites all using the same ip address as the SSL cert also has to match the domain. It can be worked around if you own the server because you can point more than 1 web site to the same physical folder and share a single installation that way but with different ip addresses for each site therefore allowing each to have an SSL cert.

For serious ecommerce I recommend a dedicated server I would not feel comfortable myself doing ecommerce on shared hosting. Some people may do that but its not what I would do or recommend. Of course one could start out on shared hosting and if you start doing a good business then you can afford to move to a dedicated server and should in my opinion.

Hi, joe!

I read the WebStore page that you recomended and find that it is available only for MS SQL and MySql.

Since my site is on postgres, I need to ask: there is any idea about when it will be migrated to other plataforms?

There is any migranting tool from postgres mojoportal to sql server mojoportal?

If the answer for this two questions is  "no", there is any other way?

This post is kind of old, but I had the same question. I have entered in product information as well as offer information, but the module on my website only shows a heading of "product list" and then lists no products. I have tried setting it up as both a downloadable file and as a physical shipment. I have changed and added multiple settings and the product list still does not show up. What am I missing?

Hi Michelle,

Check these:

  1. In Products that "Show in Products List?" is checked.
  2. In Offers that "Is Visable" is checked.
  3. When you defined an offer and clicked Save another Products tab appears. Under that tab you must associate the offer with one or more products.
