Problem with install.

A problems when updating mp last version to the latest version - may have missed some files and some things weren't working.  So I completely deleted mp and resintalled it fresh - made sure I copied all the correct files.  I removed all the tables from the database as well.  When I go to setup I get the following error from the log file.  on the screen I get "An Error Occurred: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Am I missing something?

Not sure what I did but removed Cookies then ran setup again and this is now the error I get.  Does the same in both Firefox and Explorer.

Hi Chris,

The first errors you posted were about missing tables. On new installations its expected to log errors like this because the tables don't exist until after setup runs. The error you see on the setup page is the relevant error.

I think you are dealing wth either one of 2 possible problems.

First is some bugs in the install script brought to my attention in this thread. The bug only affects some installations of MySql so I had not noticed it. On installations where MySql is configured to force lower case table names, no bug happens but on systems that keep the mixed case tables this bug happens. I think this is the problem you are dealing with because it looks like its trying to create the table mp_Pages which is mixed case. I have already fixed the bug in svn trunk and will be making a new release soon, but you can fix it right away if you use a text editor and open the file /Web/Setup/applications/mojoportal-core/SchemaInstallScripts/mysql/2.2.7.8.config and replace all instyances of mp_sites with mp_Sites using a case sensitive find and replace, or manually editing each.

Second is MySql 5.1 doesn't work as discussed in this thread. Only solution here is to go back to MySql 5.0

Hi Joe,

Its weird as have other new versions of mp running on the same server with no problems at all.  This particular site was installed about 8 months ago so I though I would upgrade to latest version.  It was working but I had some errors on some pages which looked like missing files.  There were quite a few so I deleted the whole mp and reuploaded the new one - everything seemed to upload no problems.  When I went to Setup it didn't do anything at all.  So I deleted the database and then went to setup again to start everything from scratch.  This brought up the errors as per previous posts.  So dont know what is different that stops this from installing.

I tried your suggesion with the lower case in the schema file but this didn't work.  The log file shows as below.  The database was created and one table was created mp_Sites.

If you are trying to do a clean new installation on a folder where you previously had older versions of mojoportal, I recommend you delete the /Setup folder to get rid of old version installation files and then upload the new Setup folder. Then start with a new clean db and it should work.

There should only be one script file in the /Setup/applications/mojoportal-core/SchemaInstallScripts/mysql folder, I suspect you have more than one there.

If the mp_Sites table already exists it will think it needs to do an upgrade not a new install.

I did a clean installation by completely removing all mojo portal files and folders.  the mysql folder only has one file in it - 2.2.7.8.config.  The mp_sites table didn't already exist.  I deleted all tables in the database and then ran setup folder - it must have created the table before the error happened.

Have you tried editing that script as I told you before? Replace mp_sites with mp_Sites, I never said to lower case it, make it mp_Sites

Yep - I did that - its weird.

Cleared the database again and ran setup - this time it has created 7 tables and errors as follows - much the same I guess.   Will have another good look at it tomorrow - thanks.  Should I keep running setup in the hope it will create more tables and so on?

Running script mojoportal-core - 2.2.1.5 - 00:00:00.0781250

Something is wrong it should start with script 2.2.7.8 and should never run 2.2.1.5. Somehow its not using transactions, if the first script fails it should roll back and no tables should exist, but in your case its not, so then when you try again it sees the mp_Sites table and thinks its upgrading so its running these old upgrade scripts.

What version of MySql? If MySql is running on Windows it should be configured to force lower case table names because Windows is not case sensitive. That is the default when installing MySql on windows. On Linux MySql machines it can work with mixed case table names. Your appears to be allowing mixed case which is not ideal on windows. Is your MySql machine windows or linux?

I don't know if my problem is related or not but I am getting an internal server error 500 after installing 2.2.8.1 (from 2.2.7.9). I use a MYSQL db. My host is off on xhmas hols already it seems, have logged a support ticket to see if they can find a more helpful error message but in the meantime would be great to hear if you have any ideas..

Hi Leah,

Did you visit /Setup/Default.aspx after uploading the new files?

To find out the error you can download the log file /Data/currentlog.config and open it with a text editor. The newest exception at the bottom is the only one that matters, so please don't post the whole log file. If its not the same error then post a new thread.
