An Error Occurred:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I had installed MojoPortal  2.2.7.9 on my duel core Windows server 2008 standard with MSSQL 2008 Standard it was working for the most part I was having problems with the installed css files I downloaded some skins from the community here and they worked so I started to play with the settings and broke the site I was unable to figure out what I did so I decided to delete it and reinstall. I deleted the site folder and database andreinstalled it but I am still getting the same typy of error message

An Error Occurred:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I am not sure if the rest of the error message is the same but I do know that this part is. before I deleted it I only got this message when I went to the root at www.ya-da-ya-da.net if I went to www.ya-da-ya-da.net/home.aspx it would work. FYI-I own the server it's in my office.

Hi Brian,

Deleting the site folder is probably the problem, you should restore it from the install files. When secondary sites are created new folders are created, but the first site folder is included in the install and expected to be there.

Things changed in the skinning in recent versions and skins on the community download page are not up to date with the changes. I would stick with the included skins which I have kept up to date.

I think while it can work using IIS 7 integrated mode, it works better if you try using a "Classic" app pool.

Hi Joe Thanks for your reply.

I did not just delete the site from within mojoportal, I deleted everything that come in the wwwroot folder that's in the release zip and the database from SQL. I started fresh again.

Also the skins that came in the release did NOT work the ones I downloaded from the community DID work.

I tend to think that the problem comes from outside the site folder something on the server maybe. The problem started before I deleted the files. I was changing things trying to learn how it works. when it quit I went back and unchanged everything I could remember changing. It did not help so I deleted it and started over I know that the site flolder now is the same that it was the first time right after doing the connection string. it is exactly the same and I expted it to do the setup and write the db tables just like the frist time. I guess I really should go buy a server 2008 book there seems to be a lot of differnences from 2003

Any thoughts you have on this will be greatly appreciated

Hi Joe I have been playing around and I think the problem is the cookie on my desktop. I can connect to it with my laptop and the server (Although the connection string is not working the same way it did before I'll figure it out) I cannot find the cookie on my Vista Pro desk top I went to internet tools to the cookie folder and found all the other cookies most I know exactly what they are for, I removed any I did not reconize but it did not help. this folder has not been enpty in 4 years and with 3-500Gb drives and the total free space on the three of them is around 40 Gb there is a lot of junk most work related (Home Building) if you could give a hint on the cookie name it really be helpful. I looked for any thing with the site name attached to it "ya-da-ya-da.net" with no luck

The cookie file would be named according to the domain. I'm not sure this has anything to do with cooies, but usually when I hear about cookie problems from a specific client machine that can't be produced on other machines it ends up being some kind of privacy guard feature that blocks cookies for some sites, google toolbar has been known to do such things. I would try a different browser too, like if you're usually using IE try Firefox or vice versa.
