Sql Server 2012

This is a general question for mojo and sql.

Is sql server 2012 ready to be used in web sites? or is it still candidate release?

I am asking this because i am using new PCs and I am downloading the latest releases from microsoft.

Waiting for a quick reply

Regards,

Re: Sql Server 2012

Hi,

I believe it's available for production but I can't get at from my MSDN account yet. MS is good about releasing software but not making generally available for a few weeks (sometimes months). Honestly, I wouldn't use it in production until 1) it's been proven there aren't any big issues and 2) I have a need for it.

HTH,
Joe D.

Re: Sql Server 2012

I can get to it through my MSDN subscription, but I agree with Joe. First we should wait for Joe A. to thoroughly test mojoPortal with SQL Server 2012 and certify it for production use.

I also see an RC version of Visual Studio 2012 out there on MSDN, so I expect that later this year there is going to be a shift in mojoPortal to VS 2012, MSSQL 2012, and .NET 4.5, with .NET 4 supported for backward compatibility.

Re: Sql Server 2012

I'm not expecting any incompatibility for SQL 2012. I'd say if you have access to it and it is a full released version rather than a CTP and would rather install that then go ahead and do so and let us know if you do encounter any problems, but I'd be very surprised if you do. I was still running SQL 2005 for a long time on my dev machine after SQL 2008 came out and I'm not likely to install SQL 2012 very soon just because I don't really need it or have any compelling reason to upgrade, but if I was setting up a new dev machine I'd probably install it. We have broad compatibility for SQL 2005 2008 and Sql Azure and though 2012 may have new features I doubt very much that MS will break any old features.

Best,

Joe
