Errors in several places

Hi, Joe

I have a time to write about that bug in the system.

1) Edit Properties of page in PageSettings.aspx
In the field ' Parent Page ' editor can set the page is a child of the child editable page. Shortly before you made change in SVN if (
((mojoNode.ParentId != pageId) && (mojoNode.PageId != pageId))
||(pageId == -1))
But it did not solve the problem child of child of child of child of child smiley

2) In the form eletter/LetterEdit.aspx when the user clicks ‘Generate plain text from html version’ That the text in the HTML version deleted

3) For the module blog in the table of Archives on a monthly, records are to month based on the contents of the field StartDate without time shift. Therefore, records fall into the wrong month

4) The module blog in the field of statistics showing the number comments even if comments are prohibited and the number of 0 comments. This is not a bug

5) Update files in the directory ClientScript
html5.js from http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js
IE7.js and IE8.js from http://code.google.com/p/ie7-js/downloads/list

Best regards, Alexander

Re: Errors in several places

and more

At the time of the creation of the new site (in the form SiteSettings.aspx) does not save its options.

This occurs because the procedure btnSave_Click is not initialized table exapandoProperties

Best regards, Alexander

P.S. and more I found why the freeze sites created by Mojoportal. This problem is not related to AppKeepAlive.

Re: Errors in several places

Hi Alexander,

I fixed the issue about child pages

I cannot reproduce the issue about the newsletter, perhaps you can provide steps.

I have not had time to look into the other issues yet, some issues have higher priority than others.

If you know about something that causes a site to hang then please give details, that would obviously be a higher priority issue.

It would be more helpful if you report one issue per forum thread and whenever possible provide

  1. steps to produce the problem
  2. expected result
  3. actual result

It is harder to keep track of issues when there are multiple issues in a thread and it makes it difficult to find things using the search feature when threads have multiple topics.

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Errors in several places

Hi Joe

All the problems which I speak, I check on the source code of the system. I'm the same, I have not much free time now, so I write about them briefly. A lot of work. The problem of freezing of the system is connected with the locks in the database. I just found it today. But I still do not know how to fix it in source systems.

Best regards, Alexander

Re: Errors in several places

Hi, Joe

On Error Number 2

Newsletter Editor: TinyMCE 3.27

Create a New Letter. Go to any site. Copy the text to the clipboard. Put it into the HTML page in the New Letter. Click ‘Generate plain text from html version’ That the text in the HTML version deleted.
All of these actions I checked on demo.mojoportal.com

On Error Number 3

System setting: Site Time Zone = +3
My Account Profile Time Zone = +3

Adds an entry in the blog with the parameter Start Date April 1, 2010 1:34:00

Record appears in the blog with the date of April 1, 2010 1:34:00
But in the Archives written: March, 2010 (1)

Error reason: PROCEDURE [mp_Blog_SelectArchiveByMonth]
String: GROUP BY Month (StartDate)

StartData in UTC format

On paragraph 5.

Only update the files from the place that I pointed out. This new version of your files. And if you have time update the file Web\Controls\IEStyleIncludes.cs as described http://code.google.com/p/ie7-js/

and more

Can I make record where I'll remember all the mistakes that I found in the system? (I want to remember how many and what mistakes I've found) Do not be offended.

 Best regards, Alexander

Re: Errors in several places

Hi Alexander,

You may keep whatever private records of your activities that you like.

One day I will build a formal issue tracker, until then we will use the forum for bug reports. If you make one bug report per thread it will be easier to keep track of them.

I will say that you have contributed more bug reports than anyone in a long time and some of them have been very valuable and I give you credit for that. But while I appreciate all bug reports I often feel like I've been beat up by your bug reports because of the way you report them as if to shame the project and other non bug report threads where you complain and do not give me the credit or respect I deserve. I hope we can continue to have your participation but I hope you will change your attitude and stop making me feel beat up. I have fixed all major bugs that were reported with steps to produce them within 24 hours or less and I have also done little feature improvements only for you such as little settings you needed in google analytics that no-one else has ever asked for. You should be praising me and my project and it makes me feel bad the way you treat me. You come across like you think I owe you something because you use my free product and you get free support from me and quick bug fixes. I do not owe you anything, getting bugs fixed quickly should be sufficient payment for bug reports and the free product I have already shared with you you should be thankful for. You never seem to acknowledge the value you have received from me and my work, it is like you always see the glass as half empty instead of half full.

I will continue to try and support you but I urge you to be careful how you come across to me, I will not be helpful to anyone who continually makes me feel bad for my good works.

Best,

Joe

Re: Errors in several places

Hi, Joe

List of bugs I need that would confirm my experience with mojoportal. Unfortunately, the functionality of the forum does not provide users the ability to say thanks for the useful post. Accordingly, no fixed number of useful messages. Total number of posts is not an indicator of the advanced user, since most of the posts are questions and enthusiastic words. Therefore, the only way to confirm your class as a programmer who knows the system, it is a list of errors that I found

About help me and other users of the system. It's great. You clarified me some questions of the system and help with some components (such as Google analytics).

But now I no longer see the correct and rapid development of the system. So now I think about the three directions.
1. Continue to work with mojoportal.
2. Write my content management system, more user-friendly and programmer-friendly.
3. Use the new free product Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 (Windows Sharepoint Services)  + Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express

I decided to wait for SharePoint Foundation in 2010 that would see the product and make a decision.

Best regards, Alexander

Re: Errors in several places

Hi Alexander,

I am afraid you do not understand what makes an Open Source Project community. A list of bugs reported is not going to make people think you are a great mojoPortal programmer. I have plenty of Quality Assurance friends who can't build a framework like mojoPortal to save their lives. I do think a bug tracking system would be nice but we would need someone to manage it. Joe is very busy with improving mojoPortal as the Feature Requests forum gets a lot more traffic than the Bug Reports forum. To be perfectly honest, Joe does fix all the bugs reported so I am not sure that a bug tracking system would do anything except make you feel special by having a high number of reports. Honestly, I can't think of another platform of this size that has as few bugs.

I haven't checked this out or anything but I am confident that I am the most active community member in the Forums. I know I get a lot of traffic to my own site from mojoPortal and I can attribute that to my activity in the Forums. I am not trying to take credit for anything as I think Joe deserves the credit because he has built an enormously great CMS and given it to the world for free. Your experience with mojoPortal is confirmed by your participation in the Forums or development of modules. Take Dean Brettle as an example, he wrote the NeatUpload utility for mojoPortal and it is a very important part of the system. He isn't very active in the Forums but he is recognized by the community to be a mojoPortal expert in his own right because of his contributions.

As far as SharePoint Foundation 2010 goes, I think you will be very disappointed if you think that Microsoft is going to be as fast as Joe Audette is when it comes to fixing bugs. I am not going to compare SharePoint to mojoPortal because the two are not in the same category. SharePoint is primarily for collaboration and BI. mojoPortal is for building websites and web applications. Try skinning SharePoint with Artisteer or at all really, it is not for the faint of heart.

Regardless of your decision, I hope you do well. Maybe you'll be a SharePoint MVP someday.

Take care,
Joe D.

Re: Errors in several places

Hi, Joe

Yes, maybe you're right. I have not used open source software. I used the only commercial products, or those that developed myself. Prior to my current work I worked in the largest bank and programmed for 5 years the banking system (more than 50 data entry forms) which is installed in more than 1200 bank branches. So I understand how software is developed and how it is tested, as I am programmer. So I can easily find errors in the system. But, as Joe Audette I want to have the same appreciation of my work, not just swearing from Joe. Forum (as software system) does not allow to do it.

Before working with Mojoportal, I had the idea of working with open source software just by reading how to develop Linux. In Linux everyone can participate in the development of the system and correct errors. Probably, Mojoportal is a different kind of open source software, where one developer and decides where to go and what mistakes to correct.

SharePoint Foundation 2010 will be released only after 1 month, so I decided to wait for it and see how Microsoft took into account the wishes of developers. That's what I've read about SharePoint Foundation 2010 looks promising. During the time that remained before the release of SharePoint Foundation 2010 I decided to fix more bugs in the system. It is useful if SharePoint Foundation 2010 does not live up to my expectations. Today I found 3 more errors in the MojoPortal (blog, contact form, FeedManager).

Question: How can I contact Dean Brettle? (What his email address), I translated resources of NeatUpload the Russian language.

Best regards, Alexander

Re: Errors in several places

Hi Alexander,

I think you have misconceptions about how open source works. Firstly each project is not all managed the same way, there is not one set of rules for open source. The ones who are the founders and primary developers of a project are the ones who decide how it is managed. Secondly you are mistaken if you think anyone who wants to contribute to the linux kernel can do that you are mistaken, it is very tightly controlled. You have to earn your way in and the wrong approach and attitude and alienating those who are in control of the project will not help you.

If you had the right attitude your contributions would be much more appreciated and you would have become a hero to me by now, but instead you are the most difficult person I ever have to deal with and I do not want to deal with you. You seem entirely selfish and demanding and you drain my energy with your negativity and this hurts the project offsetting your contributions. There is a saying "I don't care how much you know until I know how much you care".

I hope SharePoint 2010 has what you are looking for and I wish you good luck.

Joe

Re: Errors in several places

I wanted to clear up a misconception about Windows SharePoint Services / SharePoint Foundation being free. They are NOT FREE. They are part of Windows Server and require Windows Server licensing. Here's an excerpt from Windows Web Server licensing page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/licensing-web-server.aspx):

Windows CALs are not required. Exceptions to this rule may occur when Windows Web Server 2008 R2, is used as the scale-out front end for applications such as Windows SharePoint Services and Windows Rights Management Services.

Here are two good reference points for Internet-facing SharePoint sites:

Hope this helps.
