A Few Nice Looking mojoPortal Sites

The guys at SharpStyle are using a customized version of mojoPortal for their sites.

Unlike me, they know how to make things look pretty.

Aside from having attractive sites they have some interesting products.

Looks like they are making some good use of Flash in their sites. I would say they are probably Flash experts since one of their products is a tool for developing Action Script in Visual Studio. Pretty cool stuff.

too bad they decided to hide your logo and other mojoportal stuff... i guess that's why it's free though...

Linking to mojoPortal.com is always appreciated but I have no problem with that at all, no-one is under any obligation to link to me.

They were good enough to give me permission to list their sites and I appreciate that.

Cheers,

Joe

Those are probably some of the best looking mojoPortal sites I've seen yet. These sites really show how flexible mojoPortal is as far as UI is concerned.

Hi Joe,

They were good enough to give me permission to list their sites and I appreciate that.

Sometimes I pop in here and always been a fan of mojoPortal. (Shame I am running my stuff on drupal, but maybe one day I will have time to migrate). Now, as far as I second you and wish you success - I really cannot understand your comment above. I think you should reconsider your licencing and having there a line granting you permission to link portals based on mojoPortal.

The examples shown above are real sellers. I mean - showing them around, will cause people buying mojoPortal from integrators. They, in turn, can pour money into your project. I believe you need more sites like above and they should not be permitted to hide. [For the sake of mojoPortal future].

Recently I came accross NetDirector - quite a nice product. They decided to go "Open Source", however their licencing (AFAIK) requires always to show their logo and product name. I don't think you need to go so far, but one can easily see where they are coming from.

I agree that having good looking sites like these to show off is very helpful to the project.

There is nothing preventing me from linking to any public mojoPortal sites that I know about though I still prefer to have permission.

The only way I can find out about sites using mojoPortal is from my logs of sites that link to mine and/or people telling me about their sites. I'm sure there are many companies using mojoPortal for intranets that I will never find out about unless they tell me.

The SharpStyle guys have provided constructive feedback to the project as well as told me about their sites and explicitly given me permission to list them. I appreciate it very much and hope other companies will do the same.

Hi there,

This is "SharpStyle guys" :)

Here are a few thoughts on the subjects discussed:

  • one of the reasons why we chose mojoPortal is that it doesn't require to keep any logos. I don't see this as an acceptable requirement for any services companies that build sites for their customers. We considered using Community Server, paying for the edition that allows removal of branding. We didn't have a problem paying for such a version (price has to be reasonable). "price" usually means some type of support though. FYI: We chose mojoPortal b/c of better data and object model
  • making things look pretty: there are 2 ways to go -- hire a designer or purchase a template from any of the website templates sites

Hi Mike,

I totally agree, and this is one of the reasons I do not require anyone to link to my site. I want users of mojoPortal to be able to make their site entirely about their chosen content and attribute links can be kind of distracting from the purpose of the site in some cases. Of course some folks do link and thats always nice but no-one should feel that they have to.

I've been thinking the same thing about design, that maybe I should hire someone to come up with some good skins to include with mojoPortal. It would be well worth it because people seem to always judge the software by how good the skin looks which in my opinion is not a good way to evaluate the software. But still since that is what happens it would probably be worth hiring someone to make a few really great looking skins to include.

The biggest barrier is that I'm just a small one man startup company with not much budget. I keep hoping I will find someone with great design skills who would volunteer, but I certainly would consider paying for something really good looking. I mean this as no insult to the good people who have contributed the designs we do have. I think Jasmin Savard did a great job making the skin for this site, but it would be nice if we had a few more really eye popping skins to include.

I think the main reason I haven't bought a template is I'm not sure those kind of deals allow me to redistribute the design under an open source license so I imagine that I need a designer who would sell the copyright or license it under the cpl after a fee payment.

I'd certainly be interested to hear from some designers out there that would be willing to quote a price and show their portfolio of designs.

In the meantime its great to be able to link toy your sites and show some really good looking designs.

Cheers,

Joe
